Kratom FAQs – Kratomaniac
Kratom, otherwise known by its botanical name as Mitragyna speciosa, is a tree native to Southeast Asia, (Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and elsewhere.) Kratom is in the same genetic family as the coffee tree. The leaves of kratom have been used as an herbal remedy for centuries by the peoples of Southeast Asia. It is used as an herbal medicine as a stimulant, (at low doses), sedative, (at high doses), pain killer, anti-diarrheal, and treatment for opiate withdrawal symptoms. Be advised: we sell kratom only as an herbal specimen for legitimate research, incense, and educational and/or ornamental purposes only. Not for human consumption.
In Thailand, the leaves of the kratom plant are often chewed fresh, (typically after removing the central vein). Dried leaves can also be chewed, but are usually crushed or powdered so that they can be more easily swallowed. Powdered kratom can be mixed with fruit juice, fruit puree, or applesauce to improve taste and allow it to be easily swallowed. Many people in the west prefer to use the dried kratom leaves to make a tea that is strained and then drunk. Kratom can be smoked, but is not usually advised because the amount of kratom leaf that comprises a typical dose is too much to be comfortably smoked. A paste can be extracted by boiling of fresh or dried leaves and can be saved for later use. Small pellets of this paste extract can be swallowed, or dissolved in hot water and prepared as a tea. To improve the flavor, some people mix kratom tea with black tea or other herbal teas, before it is consumed. Sugar or honey can be added to sweeten it.
